Using STACK in exams
Within ETH's digital examinations infrastructure, we have established the use of STACK for summative assessment in various settings. All exam modes (BYOD, managed computer rooms, session exams, weekly bonus questions, ...) are possible.
STACK @ Rector's Impulse Fund
The 2025 edition of the Rector's Impulse Fund offered funding for STACK related projects to distribute STACK in more departments. Groups of five different departments took up the call and started using STACK in their teaching.
Question databases and projects
As part of our Innovedum project we developed a large question database for single- and multi-variable calculus and linear algebra aimed at engineering students. Parts of our work is also availabe in the externe Seite Abacus material bank.
We also developed a self-paced training module on integration techniques, called the Integral Trainer. See our dedicated project website for more details!
Memberships in the international community
Our team members are not just active around ETH Zurich, but also contribute to international communities like the externe Seite STACK International Advisory Board, the externe Seite STACK Professionals Network, and the externe Seite STACK Researchers Network.
Articles and Conference Submissions
The results of our work are published and presented at various conferences, for example at the annual International Meeting of the STACK Community. Accepted articles and presentations include:
- Teaching Mathematics and its Applications, 2026: "externe Seite Effective learning through online quizzes"
- Open Access International Meeting of the STACK Community 2025: Plenary talk "On-line assessment – an opportunity to rethink our teaching" by Meike Akveld, "Enhanced learning in Analysis using STACK", "Key concepts from multivariable calculus better understood using STACK and JSXGraph", "2 Years of Zulip Chatting — Let's discuss our communication needs!", "Focus on reasoning and proofs. An online module at the University of Bern"

Case studies
Innovative uses and best practices of STACK tasks and quizzes are published in the externe Seite STACK Case Studies Collection.
ETH community
Finalist in the KITE Award 2024
The lecturer's conference of ETH honored our work using STACK within ETH with a nomination for the final round of the KITE Award 2024.
Community of practice
Our team created and heads the Professional Exchange for STACK Users. We aim to bring together STACK users at ETH, report on developments and news, organise meetings and talks, and share best practices. If you teach at ETH and you want to learn more about STACK, feel free to join!
Refresh Teaching
In Fall 2022 we gave a talk Online Assessment with STACK - making individual feedback possible in ETH's Refresh Teaching lunch lecture series. If you don't know what this is all about, the presentation is a good place to start!
Learning and Teaching Fair
At ETH's Innovation in Learning and Teaching Fair 2022 we presented STACK to a wider ETH audience for the first time.
Innovedum project
Many of these first steps we took were made possible through a project generously funded by Innovedum. All the developments listed above were initiated through the project, which ran from April until December 2022. Development has since continued with departmental funding.
