Ten years ago, back in autumn 2009, Tristan Rivière took up the post of FIM Director. In the following interview he tells us what was important to him during his time as director and what events he likes to remember.

From 1 September 2019, Alessio Figalli will take over the post of FIM Director. In the following interview, he explains his interest in the FIM and his plans for the future of the Institute.

The conference: "Transport phenomena in collective dynamics: from micro to social hydrodynamics" brings together researchers working on different aspects of transport across multiple scales and present state of art theoretical and numerical results and their interplay with current applications. More than 70 participants have registered for the conference which has started today and will last until 4 November 2016.

The workshop: "Discrete Optimization" brings together researchers representing the whole spectrum of modern discrete optimization to communicate their newest results and discuss directions for future discoveries. The conference with more than forty participants from all over the world has started today and will last until 16 April 2016. It is organized by Emmanuel Kowalski (D-MATH) and Philippe Michel (EPF Lausanne).

The conference with over 120 participants from all over the world has started on 11 January and will last until 15 January 2016. It is organised by Gérard Ben Arous (New York University), Erwin Bolthausen (University of Zurich), Vladas Sidoravicius (New York University) and Wendelin Werner (D-MATH).

The conference on geometric non-linear analysis honours Prof. Michael Stuwe on his 60th birthday. It has started today, will last until 12 June 2015 and is organized by Michael Eichmair (University of Vienna), Gerhard Huisken (MFO) and Tristan Rivière (D-MATH).

50 years ago the Institute for Mathematical Research FIM was founded by ETH Professor Beno Eckmann (1917 - 2008).
