Education in Insurance Mathematics
The roots of insurance mathematics at ETH Zurich go back to the mid 19th century when, in the winter term 1858/1859, Professor Zeuner held a lecture on the "Theory of Insurance Mathematics". Today, Insurance Mathematics constitutes a well-established part of the curriculum in mathematics at ETH Zurich, and RiskLab is the main provider of insurance mathematics education in Switzerland. Beside the traditionally high significance of pure mathematics, ETH Zurich also emphasises the importance of a practically-oriented education. Therefore, our courses are given both by professors of the Department of Mathematics as well as by lecturers from industry.
Our lectures can be credited at the same time for several BSc and MSc programmes offered by ETH Zurich, as well as for the full professional qualification "Actuary SAA" offered by the external page Swiss Association of Actuaries (SAA). Together with the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zurich we offer all technical courses which are required by the syllabus of the SAA and of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) to become a fully qualified actuary.
