Welcome new students
Yesterday, on the first day of the semester, the Departments of Mathematics and Physics jointly welcomed the new generation of Bachelor's and Master's degree students.
The joint welcome has a long tradition, as the prospective physicists study their first year together with their fellow mathematics students. The students of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Computational Science and Engineering and Statistics as well as a small group of exchange students were also welcomed.
As in recent years, the number of incoming students has increased in almost all degree programmes. With a plus of about one third, the Master's degree programme in Statistics recorded the highest increase in new students, followed by the Bachelor's programme in Mathematics with about twenty percent and Physics with about seven percent more freshmen than in 2018.
The students were welcomed by the Directors of Studies and the study advisors of the respective degree programmes as well as by representatives of the administrative points of contact such as the Study Administration, the Student Services and the Mathematics Library. The VMP (association of mathematics and physics students) presented its services to the students and organized an orientation race in the afternoon to show the students the campus.
