We are very pleased to announce that Rico Zenklusen was appointed Full Professor of Mathematics at the meeting of the ETH Board in December 2023. The promotion is effective from 1 January 2024.

Georg Anegg successfully passed his oral doctoral thesis examination entitled: "Techniques for designing approximation algorithms for fair clustering problems". Congratulations!

Ingo Stallknecht successfully passed his oral doctoral thesis examination entitled: "Distances between linear and integer optimal solutions in terms of subdeterminants". Congratulations!

We are delighted to announce that Dr Oliver Janzer has been awarded the 2022 PhD Thesis Prize in Combinatorics by the British Combinatorial Committee (BCC).

The student associations VSETH and VMP have decided to honour Professor Rico Zenklusen with the 2021 Golden Owl. In this interview, he talks about what this award means to him, what he considers to be excellent teaching, and why he sees the corona crisis as an opportunity to try out new ways of teaching.

Simon Bruggmann successfully passed his oral doctoral thesis examination entitled: "New approaches to constrained submodular function maximization". Congratulations!

Rico Zenklusen is one of ten ETH Zurich researchers that receive an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Their projects are funded with around two million Swiss francs each.

Kevin Zemmer successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled: "Integer polynomial optimization in fixed dimension". Congratulations!

Andrea Baggio successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled: "Towards optimal approximations for firefighting and related problems". Congratulations!

On 15 September, Prof. Rico Zenklusen gave his inaugural lecture entitled "Mit kombinatorischer Optimierung zur Nadel im Heuhaufen". He has been an assistant professor at the Department since April 2015.

The INFORMS Optimization Society has awarded the 2015 Farkas Prize to Prof. Robert Weismantel, who is the Head of the Institute for Operations Research.
