Abstract Using only linear algebra over Z_p, we define a discrete probability distribution on the set of isomorphism classes of short exact sequences of Z_p-modules, and then conjecture that as E varies over elliptic curves over a fixed global field, the distribution of 0 --> E(k) tensor Q_p/Z_p --> Sel_{p^infty} E --> Sha[p^infty] --> 0 is that one. This one conjecture would have the following consequences: 1) Asymptotically, 50% of elliptic curves have rank 0 and 50% have rank 1. 2) Sha[p^infty] is finite for 100% of elliptic curves. 3) The Poonen-Rains conjecture on the distribution of Sel_p E holds. 4) Delaunay's conjecture a la Cohen-Lenstra on the distribution of Sha holds. (This is joint work with M. Bhargava, D. Kane, H. Lenstra, and E. Rains.)

Abstract Abstract: (Joint work with E. Fouvry and Ph. Michel) We consider estimates for sums of Fourier coefficients of modular forms twisted by functions of "algebraic origin". Using the amplification method and the Riemann Hypothesis over finite fields, in particular the Deligne–Laumon theory of the Fourier transform, we obtain very general estimates for such sums. This also has applications to the equidistribution of similarly twisted Hecke orbits.

Referent:in, Affiliation Adebisi Agboola, UC Santa Barbara
Datum, Zeit 9. November 2012, 14:15-15:15
Ort HG G 43
Abstract I shall discuss the relationship between the arithmetic of a large class of special values of the Katz two-variable p-adic L-function and the stucture of certain non-standard Selmer groups. This can be used to obtain precise information about certain special values whose behaviour is not known to be governed by the arithmetic of an underlying algebraic cycle.

Abstract We will explain joint work with Bertrand Rémy and Amaury Thuillier showing that Bruhat-Tits buildings can be embedded in Berkovich analytic group varieties and in many cases also in flag varieties. We explain the relation to Drinfeld's upper half spaces in the special case that the flag variety is projective space.

Titel Statistics of the zeros of the zeta function: mesoscopic and macroscopic phenomena
Referent:in, Affiliation Brad Rodgers, UCLA
Datum, Zeit 7. Dezember 2012, 14:15-15:15
Ort HG G 43
Abstract We review the well known microscopic correspondence between random zeros of the Riemann zeta-function and the eigenvalues of a random unitary or Hermitian matrix, and discuss evidence that this correspondence extends to larger mesoscopic collections of zeros or eigenvalues. In addition, we discuss interesting phenomena that appears in the statistics of even larger macroscopic collections of zeros. The terms microscopic, mesoscopic, and macroscopic are from random matrix theory and will be defined in the talk. This talk is based in part on results in the papers arXiv: 1203.3275 math.NT, and arXiv: 1205.0303 math.PR.
