Alice Roth Lecture 2023
It is with great pleasure we announce Professor Gigliola Staffilani as the keynote speaker of the 2023 Alice Roth Lecture.
Gigliola Staffilani:
Waves: building blocks in nature and in mathematics
Gigliola Staffilani is Abby Rockefeller Mauze Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In her lecture entitled: "Waves: building blocks in nature and in mathematics", she will first give a few examples of wave phenomena in nature and will then explain how mathematicians use tools from many different areas of mathematics such as Fourier analysis, harmonica analysis, dynamical systems, number theory and probability to understand these phenomena. She will also give examples of the beautiful interaction between the "concrete" and the "abstract" and how this interaction constantly moves forward the boundaries of research.

The lecture took place on 30 March 2023 in the Auditorium Maximum at ETH Zurich.
