Meike Akveld: President Kangaroo Board

We are very pleased to announce that Dr Meike Akveld was elected President of the Kangaroo umbrella organization at the annual general meeting of the member countries in Chicago, USA.

Since 2012 Meike Akveld is chief organizer of the external pageKangaroo competition in Switzerland (German) and Secretary of the external pageAssociation Kangourou sans Frontières (Kangaroo without Frontiers Association). Since 2018 she is co-organizer of the Kangaroo goes Science event for girls at ETH Zurich.

With the Presidency, Meike is deepening her commitment by taking full responsibility for the annual Kangaroo competition with more than six million participants from over 90 countries. The main goal of the competition is to popularise mathematics and hence engage more and more children in mathematics or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects.

During her term as President, Meike hopes to make even better use of the enormous expertise present in this huge organisation and to also reach out to more third world countries. She will also strive for a closer collaboration with both the European Mathematical Society and the American Mathematical Society in order to promote mathematics competitions world wide.
