Two new department members
We warmly welcome our new faculty members: Professor Peter Hintz and Senior Scientist Sara Kališnik.
Peter Hintz Associate Professor
Peter Hintz (*1991), currently Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been appointed Associate Professor of Mathematics and Physics by the ETH Board in March 2021.
Peter Hintz is working on partial differential equations that arise in Einstein’s general relativity theory. He has made important contributions to establishing stability proofs for Einstein’s equations, particularly the stability of slowly rotating black holes in cosmological space-time. His teaching and research will introduce significant new ideas and methods to the disciplines of mathematics and physics at ETH Zurich.
Sara Kališnik Senior Scientist
Sara Kališnik, currently Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Wesleyan University, has been appointed Senior Scientist by the ETH Executive Board.
In her research Sara Kališnik focuses on using methods from pure mathematics (such as algebraic geometry and tropical algebra) to study data. She holds a doctoral degree in mathematics from Stanford University. Before moving to the US for her professorship, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Science and postdoctoral research associate at Brown University.
