Additional information

Christoph Schwab has been associate professor of Mathematics at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics at the ETH Zurich since 1 July 1995 and became full Professor in 1998. He and his group work on the mathematical analysis and programming of numerical solution methods for partial differential equation and boundary integral equations.

Prof. Schwab was born on October 14, 1962 and comes from Flörsheim, Germany. He studied mathematics at the Institute of Technology in Darmstadt. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA, where he earned his doctorate in 1989 under Professor Ivo Babuska. After a one-year postdoctoral period at the University of Westminster, London, he received an appointment as assistant professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. During the academic year of 1993/94 he was guest scientist at the scientific center of IBM in Heidelberg and in 1995 was promoted to associate professor with tenure at the University of Maryland. In the same year he was also named Associate Professor at the ETH Zurich. 1998 he was promoted to full Professor at the ETH Zurich.

In his research the central issues are the finite and boundary element methods (BEM) for numerical solutions of partial differential equations in technology, as well as the mathematical analysis of the modeling of physical processes.
