Alessandra Iozzi’s research focus is on geometric group theory and the rigidity of group actions.
Alessandra Iozzi has been an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Mathematics since 2008.
She was born in Rome, Italy in 1959.
She concluded her studies of mathematics at the Università di Roma La Sapienza, Italy with the Laura (summa cum laude) in 1982 and held an INdAM Fellowship (Istituto Nationale di Alta Matematica) in Rome from 1982-1984.
She was awarded her PhD degree from the University of Chicago, USA, in 1989 and went on to work as a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PN, USA from 1989-1991.
From 1991-1992 she worked as a postdoc at the MSRI (Mathematical Science Research Institute) in Berkeley, CA, USA and from 1992-1993 she was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, USA. From Princeton she went on to the University of Maryland, College, Park, MD, USA where she worked as an assistant professor from 1992-2000.
From 2000-2001 she was a guest at ETH Zurich’s Institute for Mathematical Research.
From 2001 until 2006 Alessandra Iozzi was Professeur P.A.S.T. at the Université de Strasbourg, France and she was appointed SNSF professor at the University of Basel in 2004. In 2006 she became a senior scientist at ETH Zurich.
Since coming to ETH she has held longterm visiting positions at several institutions: the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, USA (Member 2013); MSRI, Berkeley, CA, USA (Simons Professor, 2015 and Research Professor 2016); Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge, UK (2017).
