The Department of Mathematics is an internationally recognised reference point for mathematical research and teaching, bringing together people from all areas of mathematics.
On 1 April, Hyunju Kwon gave her inaugural lecture entitled: "A glimpse of hydrodynamic turbulence". She has been Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department since 1 July 2024.
On 1 April, Yuansi Chen gave his inaugural lecture entitled: "The cost of turning random walks into reliable statistical uncertainty quantification". He has been Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department since 1 February 2024.
Silvio Barandun successfully passed his oral doctoral thesis examination entitled: "Foundations of the skin effect and bulk localisation in resonator systems". Congratulations!
On 12 March, Sobhan Seyfaddini gave his inaugural lecture entitled: "Symplectic geometry and area-preserving transformations". He has been a full professor of mathematics in the Department since 1 August 2024.
