The Department of Mathematics is an internationally recognised reference point for mathematical research and teaching, bringing together people from all areas of mathematics.
From 12 to 27 May 2025, the Department is organising the goMATH 2025 on the topic Origami – folded mathematics. In addition to the origami exhibition in the ETH main hall, there will be a wide range of events for pupils, students and doctoral students.
On 4 April, Stefan Kurz gave his introductory lecture entitled: "Maxwell – Kálmán – Bosch: How Math Powers Progress". He has been Professor of Practice at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics since 1 February 2024.
On 1 April, Hyunju Kwon gave her inaugural lecture entitled: "A glimpse of hydrodynamic turbulence". She has been Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department since 1 July 2024.
On 1 April, Yuansi Chen gave his inaugural lecture entitled: "The cost of turning random walks into reliable statistical uncertainty quantification". He has been Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department since 1 February 2024.
Silvio Barandun successfully passed his oral doctoral thesis examination entitled: "Foundations of the skin effect and bulk localisation in resonator systems". Congratulations!
