Congratulations to our professor Peter Hintz. He is one of the four candidates from ETH Zurich who has received a Consolidators Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Across Switzerland, the SNSF awarded 19 SNSF Consolidator Grants to researchers from nine institutions.

The Royal Society, a major scientific society, has elected the mathematician, ETH professor and winner of a Fields Medal, Wendelin Werner, as its Foreign Member. Werner is a leading researcher in the field of probability theory and the geometry of chance.

On Monday, 28 October, Ehud Hrushovski will receive the 2019 Heinz Hopf Prize. With the award, ETH Zurich honours the contributions of the Oxford mathematician to model theory – both to developing the subject, and to applying it to diverse areas of mathematics.

Alessio Figalli, Professor of Mathematics at ETH Zurich, was awarded the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Rio de Janeiro today for his outstanding contribution to mathematical research. The medal is to mathematics what the Nobel Prize is to natural sciences.
