Titel On random hyperbolic surfaces of large genus
Referent:in, Affiliation Prof. Dr. Maryam Mirzakhani, Stanford University, USA
Datum, Zeit 25. März 2013, 17:15-18:15
Ort KOL H 317
Abstract The moduli space of complete hyperbolic surfaces of genus g is equipped with a natural notion of measure, which is induced by the Weil-Petersson symplectic form. In this talk we will discuss some geometric properties of random hyperbolic surfaces of large genus with respect to this measure. Examples of such properties are the distribution of lengths of short closed geodesics and the Cheeger constant.

Abstract In 1965 Willmore conjectured that the least bended immersion of a torus in space is given by the Clifford torus (and their conformal images). I will talk about history of the problem and its solution, due to Fernando Marques and myself, which uses the min-max theory of minimal surfaces.
